Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on a straight, extendable arm that is located on a rotating turntable. Typically, telescoping boom lifts are utilized for tasks that need reaching at maximum height, exceeding other types of lifts. Like for example, employees are able to perform exterior renovations or repairs on medium sized buildings but utilizing these lifts instead of having the additional work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The boom lift bucket usually only holds one employee. These buckets are more suitable to specific tasks like for example electrical repair, as opposed to window washing or general maintenance. These lifts come in electric and gas configurations and are available with both indoor and outdoor tires.
Scissor Lifts
Beneath the scissor lifts work platform are the cross braces in which the machine gets its name. When the braces move together it pushes the platform straight up. As these units must be directly positioned beneath the work location, compared to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
The scissor lift typically has a bigger platform which enables the operator to control the lift to access a bigger work area once the lift platform is raised off the ground. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of a concern with these kinds of machines, since they must sit on flat ground in order to be utilized. Scissor lifts are great for being utilized for cladding or window installation, since they provide the employees with the desired mobility; they are also a great alternative for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The cherry picker or boom truck refers to the utility vehicle usually used to raise workers for different tasks done at heights. Generally, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and operates the equipment. There is a bucket for where the worker can stand along with a winch for lifting and an actuator arm for lifting the boom.
Cherry pickers can raise employees up to heights which were previously inaccessible. The cranes function is to lift both heavy materials and equipment for one location to another. There are various kinds of cranes which can carry out various purposes. Both of these different types of equipment excel at various tasks and are great for particular applications and accomplishing particular jobs.
