Various Kinds of Aerial Lift
A specialized type of heavy machinery which enables a person to be lifted into the air is aerial lifts. These machines are typically used to perform repairs on areas which are high up in the air such as on roofs, near power lines and street-light fixtures. Like nearly all devices, there are different kinds of aerial lifts which can be utilized to perform different tasks. For the utmost safety, each type of different kind of machinery needs right training and specific certification before using it.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are often known as Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic type of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform that is raised up utilizing pneumatic power and are mostly used indoors. Typically, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When totally compressed, these scissor lifts can be driven similar to large carts. Usually, when the platform is extended, they can not be driven for safety reasons. Before anyone could use these tools, employees must be licensed as operators.
Boom Lifts
Compared to a scissor lift, boom lifts are much more complex pieces of aerial lift machinery. A boom lift has a wide base in order to keep the lift anchored. It uses a jointed arm that has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box located in the bucket which enables the operator to lower and raise the bucket. Since the arm of the boom is jointed, it can move from side to side too. The boom lift resembles a metal scorpion's tail. Traditionally, it is used in outdoor construction applications. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to run than scissor lifts, therefore, operators have to be certified individually for these types of lifts.
