Reach Truck
A reach truck is utilized to store supplies, pallets of goods, and to keep storage places orderly. The reach truck is available in several types: the stand-up reach, double-deep reach and straddle reach.
The most basic type is the stand-up. The truck forks slide underneath the pallet and move it to the appropriate storage place. The forks slide the pallet into position. This particular type of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are just one pallet in depth.
The double-deep reach truck is like the stand-up, but is best for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods. This version has telescopic forks intended to position the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when another pallet must go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the added advantage of being able to not just slide underneath the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are suitable for workplaces where shelving units could be accessed in multiple directions. This version is best in situations where goods would not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
In most warehouses, there are usually more than one kind of reach truck. Manufacturing facilities and textile companies use various kinds of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not hard to operate and can maximize available storage space while increasing production.
