There are two basic types of lift trucks, models that run on gas and units which run on electricity:
Internal Combustion Lift trucks: The IC forklift would run on fuels like liquid propane, gas, compressed natural gas or CNG or diesel. Gas powered models are best suited for outdoor applications since they release pollutants and gases which are harmful to workers and pedestrians. Gas models are also suitable to be used in the rain and in bad weather conditions. These models could carry weights roughly 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Due to the fuel costs and maintenance, the gas powered models are more expensive to utilize than units which run on electricity, although, they cost less up front than electric powered units. Units that run on liquid propane are the right choice for safe use inside.
Electric Forklifts: Electric forklifts take batteries that need frequent charging. Because these units do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these machines. They are the right choice for warehouses and indoor applications. Additionally, electric lift trucks are much quieter to run compared to other models and they do not require any fuel storage units. Among the disadvantages of electric powered units is that they can not lift loads more than 15,000 pounds and therefore, have a slower acceleration compared to gasoline powered models.
The forklift is particularly designed to move things and supplies easily and quickly. Accidents do occur regularly like is the case with most kinds of machines. There are specific safety rules that should be followed in order to keep everyone safe. The most important problem is recruiting a qualified operator, who could show you a valid lift truck license.
There are many different types of forklifts offered on the market. Choosing which one is best for your particular needs would be based on the kind of environment your equipment would have to operate in, for instance, indoors or outdoors or both and what kinds of loads which you need to transport. When you understand your particular requirements, it will be easy to match up to the best type of lift truck. When you know all your needs exactly you can make an accurate decision.
Leasing is another great way to check out different models if you want to check out different features and see what kind of choices are available. This is a less expensive way to know if the type of equipment you have selected could keep up with you on the job site.
