The forklift is a material handling device used to lift and transport loads from one location to another. Each part of a forklift has a particular function. Different parts could be used to move the load vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts which lower and lift the load. There are various types of masts used for lifting loads to different heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.
Power Supply
There are four various ways you can power a forklift: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is situated within the cab under the seat. The propane tank is on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is underneath the back of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is positioned in the middle of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all situated inside the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift components is the truck frame. This includes the counterweights located at the back which prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
