Forklift Parts in More Detail
There are numerous parts which make up a lift truck. The forklifts major parts include the truck frame, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. In addition, a forklift consists of a range of attachments. All the parts making up a forklift are all important since they work together to make the machine's operation possible. The following paragraphs describe in detail several of the forklift parts.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the equipment operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck would injure the operator or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on various models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical lift truck part made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move up and downwards whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails could either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast may be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and various other types of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is attached by chains. To enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage could have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are many kinds of attachments that could be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common attachment. What's more, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These various attachments are helpful for transporting different types of loads.
