There are safety and healthy guidelines governing the use of forklift trucks. Any large equipment, such as a forklift, is potentially dangerous and should be operated safely. The regulations and rules state that the driver needs to perform daily inspections on the lift truck and more thorough inspections every week and each and every month. The following inspections should be performed on the lift truck:
Lift Truck Brakes - the brakes are a really important part of the lift truck machinery and thus they should be double and tripled checked. A brake inspection is carried out with different pedal heights and pressures to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights must be checked at the same time.
The Tires - forklift tires are also key for the safe performance of the lift truck and to the braking system. All the tires must be properly inspected to ensure they are inflated to the proper pressure and that there are no punctures in the tires.
Controller - the forklift controller system is checked by operating the forks and the release to know that the system is in good working order. Any sign of issues should immediately reported and tended to. The forklift must not be used until the controller system has been fixed.
Steering Wheel - the driver must check the lift truck steering wheel in order to make sure the turning of the wheel is right. Lift truck safety depends upon the steering wheel functioning correctly and responding well. There are a variety of checks that can be carried out to determine steering wheel performance.
Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine requires oil. The dipstick will show both the level of the oil and the colour of the oil. The oil should be refilled if the level is very low. If the colour is off, there could be contamination occurring.
Fire Extinguisher - all forklift trucks are required to be equipped with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher needs to be tested to ensure it would function correctly in case of a fire. Various kinds of fire extinguisher must be checked in certain ways. For example, a dry chemical extinguisher needs to be shaken.
