In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machines. In 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the following years. Now, SMAG is the market leader in the world, using grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and worldwide cargo handling applications.
